Donating Jewelry Within the Local Community

Since Sirona Jewelry Designs opened in 2007, we've been donating jewelry and money from jewelry sales to various community organizations. I think it's important for any business, no matter how small or large, to help non-profits within the local community.

Last year the community recipient for our $1.00 donation for each piece of jewelry sold went to The Greater Portland Animal Refuge League. This year, cash donations will go to the Preble Street Resource Center in Portland, Maine.

We also donate jewelry to some of our local and state non-profits which raise funds through auctions. The following are some of the non-profits to whom we have donated jewelry: Millbrook Estates - Elderly Housing; Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern ME; The Portland Chamber of Commerce; The Greater Portland Animal Refuge League; USM School of Music and the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill, Augusta Maine Chapter.

A Little Personal Info & More Jewelry

Ok, so I've been bitten by the jewelry bug and it never lets go. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!

Actually this is wonderful because when I'm making jewelry I feel well enough to work. After a career as a licensed psychotherapist, teacher and consultant, I became very ill in January of 1999.  I was 55 at the time. My whole life turned on a dime. Now 13 years later, I'm still disabled and a shut in - and, I have a strong spirit, a zest for life, wonderful friends, a loving kitty and a never-ending passion for designing and making jewelry.

Making eclectic jewelry is a challenge on many levels. I think that most of us who do it, do it because we really love designing pieces. On the Artist Statement page my website, I wrote about what making jewelry means to me. If I were to write again, I'd say the same thing.

Anyway, here are a few of my latest pieces. There's lots more to come in the days ahead.

Thanks for stopping in. I appreciate your taking the time.

Semi Precious & Multi Colored Gemstone Necklace

Today was a really good day. The smell of fall is in the air and when I work in my jewelry studio I have a great view of the trees just beginning to turn color. While I hate to see summer go, I've been a New Englander all my life and I enjoy the change of seasons.

Althought the colors are more attuned to summer, the necklace I made today is just  plain pretty. What do you think?

This necklace is made with very high quality semi precious gemstones, including: sky blue topaz, pink quartz, purple amethyst, lemon quartz, cognac citrine, green and pink amethyst. While mined in Brazil, these 8-10mm button stones were cut in Germany. The weight of the gemstones is a total of 235 carats.

The edge of each gem is exquisitely faceted while the inner part of each button gem is smooth as silk. A gorgeous center drop bead, a 15mm faceted sky blue topaz, adds the final touch to this elegant necklace. This piece is 18" in length and hosts a substantial 14K gold filled contemporary chain and simple 24k gold vermeil clasp closure.
